Is the Bluetti EB70 Portable power station for You?

Whether Bluetti EB70 power station is for you depends on your occupation, lifestyle, and profession. Are there some moments in your place of work when emergency power supply will be needed? Do you live in a place where there are some moments of power outrage? Do you engage in some outdoor activities that require power supply?

Consider answering the questions above. Your answer will determine whether Bluetti EB70 portable power station is for you or not. Take a look at some of my recommendations below.

Who I recommend Bluetti EB70 Portable power station for

  • Bluetti EB70 portable power station is best for videographers and photographers. We discovered that it can easily support a full day of shooting, if not more – potentially even an entire week. Moreover, you’ll be able to recharge your flash, camera, and lighting batteries multiple times without relying on wall outlets or recharging the power station.
  • I think this portable power station could be an excellent choice for campers. If you intend to spend your holiday in a holiday camp this power station will make your stay at the camp comfortable and memorable. The Bluetti EB70 will charge your smartphones, tablets, power your lights, projectors, and other gadgets. It even has a wireless charge pad. It can simply be charged by solar panels, thus you do not have to worry about electricity consumption at all.
  • Bluetti EB70 could be very good for hikers. If you enjoy going for a long walk in the countryside for pleasure, this power station will make your walk so interesting. It can power almost all your essentials on the road. From your phone, laptop to an electric cooker. And you will not feel disturbed since it very portable and weighs less.
  • The Bluetti EB70 Portable power station could be awesome for fishermen. You will need the portable power station to charge your devices and also to heat your tent. It can simply be charged by solar panels, thus you do not have to worry about electricity consumption at all.
  • This portable power station is recommended for you if you work in a hospital or clinic. In cases of emergency and when there is power outrage, you can power the medical machines with this power station. Also, you can charge some rechargeable gadgets used for medical treatment like Rechargeable Pulse Oximeter or Portable Breath Alcohol Tester (S80 Breathalyzer) with this power station.

If you fall into the group of individuals that the Bluetti EB70 is designed for, you have the option to explore any of the power stations listed below.

Who I don’t recommend Bluetti EB70 Portable power station for

  • Unfortunately, Bluetti EB70 Portable power station is not equipped to support the needs of heavy appliances like refrigerators, fans or heaters in their homes or offices. Bluetti need to produce robust power stations with higher power rating to support the needs of heavy appliances. The Bluetti EP500 or Bluetti EP500 Pro are answers to this deficiency found in Bluetti EB70.
  • I’d also say that Bluetti EB70 Portable power station is not fit enough to satisfy the needs of any device that its power rating is above 800W/716Wh. If you have electronic gadgets that have power rating higher than 800W/716Wh, Bluetti EB70 is not recommended for you. You have to try Bluetti EP500 or Bluetti EP500 Pro.
  • Bluetti EB70 is not recommended for people who work under the rain or snow. This is because this portable power station is not waterproof. You do not have to let it come in contact with moisture or store it in a humid environment for a long time to avoid damage.

While we think that Bluetti EB70 Portable power station is the best choice for videographers, photographers, campers, and hikers, people who use heavy appliances like refrigerators, fans or heaters in their homes or offices might not find it quite suitable and comfortable for their activities.

If you exclusively use heave appliances in your home or office, you need to consider Bluetti EP500 or Bluetti EP500 Pro instead as they offer better support and comfort for heavy appliances.

Bluetti EB70 Design

Among the portable power stations I have examined, the Bluetti EB70 stands out as a mid-range option. While it does have a weight of 9.7 kg, which can be considered heavy to some extent, it is not overly burdensome. Moreover, its dimensions measuring 32 x 26 x 22.1cm are adequately compact and facilitate easy transportation thanks to the inclusion of a spacious carry handle on top.

This review focuses on the black edition of the portable power station, although alternatives in turquoise or blue or red are also accessible. The black shade possesses a slight quirkiness that sets it apart from others. Interestingly, this attribute proves advantageous as it ensures effortless identification even when carelessly thrown into a collection of black bags at the back of a car; there is no possibility of overlooking its presence. Furthermore, this color choice effectively safeguards against any potential staining that may occur on the power station’s surface.

The initial appeal of the Bluetti EB70 lies in its straightforward design and convenient portability. Positioned at the upper front of the station, you will find the power input, allowing you to charge it using solar panels, mains power, or even your car battery.

Following that is the transparent LCD display, which indicates the remaining battery charge, the power input to the panel, and the power consumed by connected devices. Similar to all other portable power generators, it also features a powerful LED light that provides ample non-directional lighting.

In terms of power outlets, there are two types: DC outputs and AC outputs. On the left side, there is a USB Type-C PD rated at 100W, which is sufficient to directly power MacBook Pro (2022) and newer models. Additionally, there are two standard USB outputs (5V, 3A), a carport cigarette lighter port (DC 12V, 10A), and a new type of outlet for this device – a 12V 10A DC (5.5 x 2.1 mm).

Additionally, on the right-hand side of the bank, there are AC sockets available. These sockets adhere to the standard UK type (although they may vary depending on territory) commonly found within households and mounted on walls.

Apart from the front design of the Buetti EB70, the rest of the unit is incredibly uncomplicated. The casing features ventilation on the sides to ensure ample cooling, with quiet fans that activate when connected to power-hungry devices like a MacBook Pro and monitor. The back and underside of the case are plain in appearance. On top, you’ll find a convenient carry handle and a wireless charging pad for your mobile phone or any other device that supports wireless charging.

Bluetti EB70 Performance

During my hands-on test, I found this wireless charging pad to be incredibly handy, not only for recharging my phone but also as a convenient spot to keep it during the shoot to maintain its battery life. The only downside was that everyone else also realized its usefulness, resulting in some competition for the limited charging space. It’s worth mentioning that only one wireless device can be charged at a time.

During a video shoot, I utilized my standard equipment which included two Rotolight Anova Pro 2 lamps, a Sony FS7 camera, a MacBook Pro (2022), and a BenQ 27-inch 4K monitor as an additional device. While everything was plugged in, I noticed that the small screen displayed a maximum power draw of approximately 200 Wh. This power consumption allowed me to use the equipment for around three hours and some extra time considering the computer’s battery and power-saving features when using the camera. In total, I managed to work for about six hours, excluding breaks and lunch.

I found the BLuetti EB70 to be incredibly user-friendly. It operates just like plugging into a wall socket, without any complicated steps. What I appreciate the most is that all the power outlets are conveniently located on the front of the power station. This design allows for effortless plugging and unplugging of devices, eliminating the need to maneuver around or reposition the battery to access the desired sockets.

The Bluetti EB70 proved to be a reliable companion throughout the day. Its ability to support numerous devices without generating excessive noise, even under increased power consumption, left me pleasantly surprised. Like other portable power stations, it has a limit of 800W for maximum power draw, so using appliances with high energy requirements such as the Dyson air blade will push it to its limits. Nevertheless, for most photography and videography purposes, the Bluetti EB70 offers more than enough capabilities.

Undoubtedly, the power station is only a component of the setup in the review, with the SP 120 solar panels comprising the other part.

The solar panel is designed with four panels that collapse into a compact arrangement. Once expanded, the panel offers two eyelets on one edge for easy attachment to a vehicle, wall, or any suitable surface to maximize sun exposure. Alternatively, the back of the panel features four legs secured with Velcro that can be folded down for support.

After setting up the solar panel, retrieve the cables from the zipped pocket at the back and connect them to the front of the Bluetti EB70. During a sunny day, I discovered that a nearly empty Bluetti EB70 could be fully recharged within six to eight hours, depending on the intensity of sunlight. It was crucial to adjust the position of the panels as the sun’s angle changed throughout the day.

When the sky is cloudy, it will take around 24 to 48 hours, or 12 to 14 hours, of sunlight to fully replenish an empty battery.

The Bluetti EB70 offers an abundance of power, more than sufficient for a full day of shooting. It allows you to connect all the necessary devices, including a camera, laptop, and lighting equipment. Notably, it boasts standout features like the wireless charging pad. However, its true appeal lies in its user-friendly design and unwavering reliability.

Despite the black color of the review unit, I am also quite fond of the design. The placement of all ports on the front of the case adds to its usability and convenience, particularly when relocating the power station during a shoot.

Ultimately, the Bluetti EB70 is an exceptional power solution for individuals working on small productions. With its ample capacity, photographers will discover that it can easily support a full day of shooting, if not more – potentially even an entire week. Moreover, you’ll be able to recharge your flash, camera, and lighting batteries multiple times without relying on wall outlets or recharging the power station.

For videographers, the Bluetti EB70’s capacity is advantageous as it kept batteries charged during two shoots. Even when you conveniently left the power station charging in the car, with the panels placed over the window screen.

Solar panels are incredibly efficient and have some of the most impressive designs I’ve encountered. Despite this, it still requires approximately 6 to 8 hours under sunny conditions to fully charge. Nevertheless, I discovered that continuously adding to the charge throughout the day proved to be the optimal solution. In fact, during one particular outing, it supplied enough power for the entire day while still leaving me with 40% capacity when I returned home.

The Bluetti EB70 boasts a concealed technological gem – its LiFePO4 battery cell. This alternative surpasses others in terms of safety and longevity, with an impressive lifespan of up to 2500 cycles at 80% capacity. In essence, this means that you can rely on this battery for daily use over a span of seven years.

Round up of best Bluetti EB70 Portable Power Stations

Conclusion

The Bluetti EB70 portable power station is a meticulously designed portable power station that comes equipped with solar panels. Although its capacity falls within the mid-range compared to other power stations of its kind, the extra power it provides surpasses that of the EcoFlow River by a significant margin. When compared to the more robust Jackery 1000, I discovered that the Bluetti EB70’s smaller and lighter build made it much more convenient to carry, particularly when traversing across fields.

The Bluetti EB70 has a lot of features that I love. Firstly, the design is great with all the power outlets placed conveniently on the front, along with the power input. This arrangement allows for easy and unobstructed plugging in of devices, without covering the power buttons. Additionally, the inclusion of a wireless charging pad on top of the Bluetti EB70 is a brilliant addition that you never knew you needed until you got it.

In addition, I have a strong affinity for the SP120 solar panel. Although it can be a bit tricky to assemble with its four velcroed legs, the panels themselves are comparatively lightweight and compact, making them convenient to transport. Furthermore, these panels exhibit excellent design with strategically placed cables and neatly folding sections that securely fasten for easy transportation or storage.

In terms of performance, the Bluetti EB70 portable power station proves itself to be a reliable and efficient tool for videographers, photographers, campers, and hikers. While it could benefit from the inclusion of a wireless app and slightly higher capacity, it successfully met my power needs during various photography and video shoots without any disruptions or noise.

If you’re in search of a portable power source that can be charged with solar panels, the Bluetti EB70 is by far the most impressive portable power station I’ve encountered.
